Rupee Symbol Shortcut Key Microsoft Word
There at quite a few pages floating around on the web for typing Rupee symbol in Word but strangely, none of them seemed to fit me. Working on my 100+ pages, I need to use the symbol maybe some 20-30 times and had no intention to use a specific font supporting Rupee symbol for all the text. I needed the content in Garamond, and a Rupee symbol here and there, in a few places. Here’s how:
- Download Rupee Foradian font (I got it from http://www.finance.kar.nic.in/others/rupee.htm) .Unzip the font file Rupee_Foradian.ttf file. You may unzip anywhere (the file!) … the location does not matter.
- In Windows 7 and 10, right click Rupee_Foradian.ttf and click install.
- Once the Font is installed, open Microsoft Word (I’m using Office 2010). Open “Insert” > “Symbol” > “More Symbols”.
- In the drop down box for “Font”, choose “Rupee Foradian”.
- Click on the Rupee symbol; it should be fifth line, first column.
- Click on the button “Shortcut Key”. Then in the empty box marked “Press new shortcut key”, type the key you want for Rupee symbol (I use <Alt> + <r> keys). Then press the “Assign” button.
- That’s it. You’re done. Use any font you like to type the main body of the text. Every time you press Alt-R in Word, the Rupee symbol shall be typed. Note that if you are sharing a soft copy of this file, the Rupee symbol might not appear properly on a computer which does not have Rupee_Foradian font installed. Also, when taking a printout, better take a test page to see how it comes out (but that is quite obvious I guess).
