Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron

Once again, for the umpteenth time, I fire up Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron vcd for a laughter filled two and half hours or so. But as I watch it, I feel such a sadness gather around me as I watch it progress. Its sad that the movie is identified predominantly by its take on Mahabharata! I’m still at the starting scenes and I sense so much pain, anguish and helplessness as fates are being decided over clanking glasses! Its not just this particluar scene but the whole movie, seen from another angle. And the image is one of such a disgust provoking reflection on our society. Whats so painful is that its not too far from the truth. God help us … and God help those who look at the movie as a pure comedy …
